Who We Are

Our nonprofit works in collaboration with lawyer assistance programs and medical professionals to support attorneys, judges, and law students facing mental health challenges, including depression, addiction, anxiety, and debilitating conditions. Through this work, we help legal professionals regain self-esteem, access appropriate care, and re-establish themselves as healthy, productive members of the profession.

How We Help

McShane’s Mission volunteers have helped prevent suicides, supported individuals through addiction recovery, and assisted attorneys struggling with depression and anxiety in finding and funding professional treatment. Our organization also serves as an advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention within the legal community by conducting educational seminars, sponsoring peer support groups, and supporting recovering attorneys in disciplinary proceedings before state bar associations.

Reducing Stigma in the Legal Profession

Central to this mission is our commitment to reducing stigma and increasing awareness of the prevalence of mental health challenges and suicidality in the legal profession.

A Trusted Facilitator

We are not medical providers. Rather, McShane’s Mission serves as a trusted facilitator and strategic partner for individual lawyers, employers, and legal organizations addressing the mental health crisis within the profession. By providing peer support, education and access to critical resources, our organization helps bridge a longstanding gap in the legal field, where mental health and suicide prevention services are often limited or stigmatized.

Peer-Led Support

Our volunteers are professional peers whose lived experience and understanding of mental health challenges allow them to connect authentically with those at risk. Individuals whose well-being, families, clients and careers may be in jeopardy due to untreated mental health concerns, will find understanding colleagues among the McShane’s Mission volunteers.

A Lifesaving Resource

As a dynamic and inclusive organization, McShane’s Mission can be a lifesaving and career-preserving resource for those seeking information, peer support, and non-stigmatized recovery within the legal community.
